What the four tracks on Home mean
Home shows four tracks: State filing, Tax ID (EIN), Signature form and Registered agent. Each has a badge, and a track counts as done only after our team checks the proof.
On this page
Your formation moves along four tracks. Each one shows a badge and a sentence that says where it is.
The four tracks
| Track | What it covers | Badge when done |
|---|---|---|
| State filing | Our formation partner files your company with the state | Filed |
| Tax ID (EIN) | The application for your company's EIN with the IRS | Issued |
| Signature form | Your signature on Form SS-4, if the IRS needs it | Signed |
| Registered agent | The agent named on your state filing | Active |
Other badges
- Not started: the step starts once the order is placed.
- Waiting: the step is waiting, for example on the state or on another track.
- In progress: the step is under way.
- Received · checking: our formation partner reported it done, and our team is checking the proof.
- Needs you: you have something to do. It also shows at the top of Home.
- Blocked: something stopped the step. The sentence says why and what we need.
- Not needed: this company doesn't need the step.
How the tracks connect
- The EIN application starts once the state filing is complete.
- If the IRS needs your signature, the form appears on the Signature form track for you to sign.
- The registered agent is named on the state filing. It is active once the state approves it.
When the Signature form says Not needed
You may see "No signature form is needed for this company", or "Not needed any more — your tax ID came through without it." Nothing is missing. Nothing is needed from you.
Done lines
A finished track shows who did it and when, and the date our team checked it. If a paper hasn't arrived yet, the line adds that it isn't here yet.
