Why a document isn't showing yet
A formation paper appears in Documents only after it has arrived and our team has checked its step. Until then, the empty slot tells you where it is.

Each formation paper has a place in Documents from the start. It opens only once it has arrived and our team has checked the step it belongs to.
What the empty slot tells you
- "Appears here once checkout is done." Your payment isn't finished yet. This is the receipt slot.
- "Arrives with the state filing." or "Arrives with the tax ID." The step hasn't finished yet. Home shows where that step is.
- "Not here yet. We're waiting for it to arrive." The step is done, but the paper hasn't come in yet.
- "Arrived. Our team is checking it; it opens here once the step is done." It's here, and a person on our team is checking the proof.
Why we check first
A track counts as done only after a person on our team has checked the proof. This keeps what you see in Documents and on Home accurate.
While your company is forming
Only your order's own papers show while your company is being formed. Mail, annual reports and your own uploads show once they are stored.
What you can do
- Open Home and check the matching track: State filing for the certificate and the operating agreement or bylaws, Tax ID (EIN) for the tax ID letter.
- If a track says Needs you, act on it first.
- If the track is done but the paper still says it isn't here yet, ask our team.
