How to sign Form SS-4
When the form is ready, Home shows Sign the tax ID form. The account owner selects Sign and signs on our formation partner's secure signing page. Nobody can sign it for you.
Form SS-4 is the IRS application for your company's EIN. The IRS needs your signature on it before it can issue your tax ID. Nobody can sign it for you.
Before you start
- The form appears after your order is placed and our formation partner prepares it. Until then there's nothing to sign.
- Only the account owner can sign. Teammates see "Only the account owner can do this. Ask the account owner to sign."
Steps
- Sign in and open Home.
- Under Needs you, find Sign the tax ID form.
- Select Sign. Our formation partner's secure signing page opens.
- Follow the steps on that page to sign.
- Return to Home. The Signature form track shows Signed once our team has checked it.
We email you "Your signature is needed on" the form when it's ready, and remind you while it waits. Each reminder points to Home, which opens a fresh signing link.
If something goes wrong
- "We couldn't open the signing page. Please try again." Select Sign again from Home.
- Sign the tax ID form again. Sometimes the form needs a new signature. Sign it the same way.
- The Signature form track says Not needed. Your tax ID came through without it, or this company doesn't need it. Nothing is needed from you.
What happens next
The EIN application goes to the IRS. When the EIN is issued and checked, the Tax ID (EIN) track shows Issued and we email you. See Where to find your EIN.
