EIN and tax ID
Getting an EIN with or without an SSN, and signing the SS-4.
- Do I need an SSN to get an EIN?No. Your EIN application is included with or without an SSN. We only ever ask whether someone has an SSN or ITIN and, for a US person, its last four digits. Never the full number.
- How to choose the responsible partyOn the Tax ID step, pick the person who controls the company, usually the main owner. They are named on the EIN application and sign it.
- How to sign Form SS-4When the form is ready, Home shows Sign the tax ID form. The account owner selects Sign and signs on our formation partner's secure signing page. Nobody can sign it for you.
- What is Form 8821, and when do I sign it?Form 8821 lets our formation partner talk to the IRS about your EIN application. You sign it from Home only if you added Expedited EIN.
- Where to find your EINOnce issued and checked, your EIN is on the Registrations tab of your company page, shown with its last four digits. The account owner can copy the full number, and the IRS letter is in Documents.
