What is the state filing fee?
It's the fee your state charges to file your company. We pass it on at cost, add nothing to it, and show the amount for your state at checkout, before you pay.
On this page
Each state charges its own fee to form a company. We pass it on at cost and show the amount for your state at checkout, before you pay.
Where you see it
At checkout, the order summary shows a separate line, "State filing fee", with your state's name and "(at cost)". It is included in Total today. Under the total you'll see: "The state filing fee is charged at cost by the state. We add nothing to it."
The amount depends on your state and on the type of company, LLC or C-Corp. Checkout reads it live for your choice.
If checkout can't show the fee
Sometimes the fee can't be confirmed. Checkout then stays closed and shows: "We can't confirm the state's filing fee right now. Nothing is lost — try again in a moment." Select Try again. Your answers stay as they are.
After you pay
Your receipt lists the state filing fee line with the amount you paid. See Where to find your receipt.
Fees the state filing fee doesn't cover
- Fees to register in a second state, if you'll operate somewhere other than your formation state.
- Fees for later state filings, such as an annual report. Your compliance calendar lists these filings once your company is formed.
