How to add owners and ownership
On the Owners step, fill in one card per owner with their legal name, email, US-person answer and home address. LLC percentages must total exactly 100; C-Corp owners get shares.
The Owners step asks "Who owns the company?" There is one card for each owner you counted before checkout. The first card is filled in with your account's name, email and phone.
Steps
- For each owner, enter their Legal first name and Legal last name, exactly as on their passport.
- Enter their Email.
- Answer Is this person a US person for tax purposes? with Yes, No or I'm not sure.
- Enter their home address.
- Optionally, add their mobile number. Leave it blank to use your main number.
- Set ownership:
- LLC: enter Ownership (%) for each owner. The total must be exactly 100. Select Split evenly to share it equally.
- C-Corp: enter Shares for each owner. The app shows the percentage each one owns.
- Select Continue.
No tax IDs are asked on this step.
Rules the form checks
- LLC ownership must add up to exactly 100%. Otherwise you'll see "Ownership adds up to N%. It has to be exactly 100%."
- Up to 10 people can be added online.
- At least one owner must be a person, because a person signs the EIN application (Form SS-4).
If an owner is a company
Owners are added as people online. Select Is one of the owners a company? Tell your team., add a note if you like, and select Send to your team. Our team adds the company owner by hand.
